I just spoke with Caroline Dybala, Recruiting Manager at Scottrade. She provided me with some background on the 80-90 financial internships that they are hiring for in their branch offices. Scottrade has been growing at 15% per year and plans to open another 50 offices this year so these positions are key to the company’s growth.

Scottrade views its internship program as a feeder for its full-time positions, hiring 40-50% of its intern group each year. These are client-facing positions, so if you’ve got great customer service skills, an interest in the stock market (yes, it will go up again), and are gung-ho about learning, Scottrade could be the place for you.

Verizon Wireless, the #2 mobile carrier in the US, continued to add millions of subscribers in the first quarter and plans to hire nearly 13,000 employees this year - 2,800 of which are entry-level positions. Most of their new/recent grad hiring will be in their retail sales and customer services area, all around the country.

Not sure about starting out in retail? VZW’s recruiting director says their retail operation is where most entry-level talent gets their foot in the door, learns the ropes and moves up or into other parts of their organization. Bring along a results-oriented attitude and the sky’s the limit!

GEICO, one of the fastest growing auto insurance companies in the U.S. (also famous for its gecko icon), is projecting to hire ~300 from the Class of 2009. Most of their openings are for claims, business analyst, and leadership development positions, and they recruit for all types of majors!

You’ve probably heard of Accenture because of Tiger Woods. Well, CSC (or Computer Sciences Corporation) is a $17B company with 92k employees that also competes in the consulting, systems integration and outsourcing space. I spoke to a HR manager at CSC and they are hiring entry-level talent across their business units, such as federal, commercial, outsourcing, and business solutions. For example, they are looking for associate consultants in business and IT, engineers and claims processing.
